In late 2022, she launched her business, creating unique, handcrafted pieces that blend vibrant colors with sustainable practices. Alice’s inspiration? A desire to nurture her creativity after years in the city. Her typical day involves crafting, caring for her cat, and finding beauty in her natural surroundings. She offers valuable advice for small business owners: perseverance, clear goals, and self-care. Alice’s future? Meet Athea, the passionate founder and creative director of Kapsoura candles. Athea’s creative journey began with a background in special effects makeup and interior design, which she skillfully combines to shape her candle designs. Each candle becomes a canvas for her thoughts and emotions, as she draws inspiration from her experiences and battles with depression. Her creative process involves culling ideas from her loved ones, music, cherished memories, and the thrill of travel, all with the hope of imparting magic moments into people’s lives.
Meet Sara 😍 Sara is the owner, designer and lead sewist behind the label Desert Lily Vintage. After a successful 14-year career in the Royal Australian Air Force as a medic, and in her early stages of motherhood, she was desperately in need of creative outlet and thus Desert Lily Vintage was born – a sustainable women’s resort wear brand that focuses on zero waste practices and incorporates locally sourced vintage bed linen 🍃
This is Madeline from MadelineGeorgia Art. 😍 Madeline was raised in a small country town on the Yorke Peninsula of South Australia. Madeline works with resin and her works of art are inspired by nature and life. The beauty of resin is that “each piece is one of a kind can never be repeated.” 🍃
Meet Nicole from Hemp Gallery Australia 👋 Nicole and her Mum Beatrice are the mother-daughter duo behind Hemp Gallery Australia. Nicole & Beatrice are passionate about the environmental benefits of hemp and the endless products that can be made out of it as a sustainable alternative. They have taken HGA from local markets to the ecommerce scene with their beautiful products for the home, body and soul. 🌻
Meet Pippa from Pippa Owen Design! 👋 Pippa is a professional graphic designer and die-hard beach baby. Pippa Owen Design represents Pippa’s passion for protecting our oceans and marine life. Her signature sand-free beach towels being made from recycled plastic water bottles and post-consumer waste. 🏝️
Meet Nicole from Custodians of our Planet 👋 a Diagnostic Radiographer, turned start up business owner, Nicole is trying to save the planet one bag at a time! Her brand Custodians of our Planet (C.O.O.P) was launched in late 2021 and provides great sustainable alternatives for conscious customers.
Meet Elle, co-founder and co-designer at Bondi Booti 👋 Elle grew up watching her talented mum designing and making on the dining room table. Nowadays, Elle and her Mum run Bondi Booti, a gorgeous brand offering handmade and exclusive clothing and accessory designs made in small batches for babies and toddlers.
This is Marisa from Nembe 👋 Marisa’s creative outlets come in many forms, including drawing, sewing and writing, as well as jewellery design. Marisa is passionate about ethical and sustainable consumerism and the jewellery designs at Nembe are slow made to create unique pieces and minimise waste. 🥰
Meet Ren from Rox Lox 👋 Ren has been in the hair and beauty industry for 20+ years. She launched Rox Lox in 2021 with the goal of creating the first salon quality natural and sustainable hair care brand! Rox Lox now has a wonderful range of products that are cruelty free, palm oil free, vegan and natural.
Meet Vonne from InRo 👋 You’ll find Vonne in Collingwood, likely with her beautiful pup Buddyganoush 🐶 Vonne’s brainchild InRo is changing the game when it comes to saying no to fast fashion and waste. Instead, InRo promotes the reusing and sharing of fashion with their second hand rental boxes.
Meet Mae 👋 Mae is the creative maker behind Gumnut the Label. Her products are inspired by nature and that world that surrounds us. They also encourage us to embrace our inner child. All products are sustainably handmade in small batches using natural materials like cotton, hemp and linen.
Meet Elsa from Mère veilleuse (meanining ‘Nuturing Mum’) 👋 Elsa created Mère veilleuse to ensure mums feel nurtured and empowered while they are breastfeeding. Her french background introduced her to natural breastfeeding shells and their benefits. Elsa’s own breastfeeding journey and her experience helping loved ones with theirs has contributed to what Mère veilleuse has now become today and it’s growing popularity.
Meet Carolyn, the designer and maker behind Millie June Silver Goods 👋 Lovingly named after her maternal grandmother, Millie June Silver Goods was established as a creative outlet for Carolyn during the Melbourne lockdowns. All pieces are handcrafted in Carolyn’s home studio with recycled and sustainably sourced silver, rosarita and antique glass.
Meet Clare from Clare Makes 👋 In her former life, she was a beauty blogger and travel/lifestyle blogger. Clare then established her own business in 2020 after the birth of her second child. Every candle from Clare Makes has at least one native Australian scent note and is named after a significant Australian historical figure.
Meet Carly from Rivarossa Botanicals 👋 originally from Canada, Carly immigrated to Australia last year with her husband. She is a busy mum of two who has had a lifelong love of crafting and creating. Her natural dyed fashion and homewares offer a sustainable alternative to the toxins, waste and chemicals present in the fast fashion and textile industry.
Meet Salma 👋 Salma is a PhD student in Chemical Engineering at the University of New South Wales. She is also an environmental activist and self-proclaimed science freak! OrgHandy was a natural progression of Salma’s love for using natural chemical-free products herself.
Meet Christelle from Christelle Marie Designs 👋 Christelle’s time is divided between nursing, jewellery creation and being a mum of two beautiful daughters. Christelle Marie Designs was created as a result of Christelle’s love for flowers, gardening and creating beautiful things.
Meet Vicki & Robyn, founders of Soap Shakin Sisters 👋 They launched Soap Shakin Sisters in March this year. Their new business was inspired by their late mother, Melba. They still have her soap shaker which is over 60 years old. They are passionate about the environment and eliminating single use plastic by creating an economical and durable product that can clearly stand the test of time!
Meet Ashlea 👋 printmaker and founder of The Screenery. Ashlea is the guru behind each design you see at The Screenery. She has cut the stencils and designed and hand-printed every linen tea towel, cushion cover, napkin, table runner and apron from her Northern Beaches studio. Her products are mindfully made, using eco-friendly water-based vegan inks and printed onto linen because it’s not only luxurious but also a sustainable, durable material that stands the test of time. 🌸
Meet Rosalind from House of April Hair 👋 Rosalind is a hairdresser with over 17 years of experience in the industry. When Covid hit in 2020, Rosalind made the tough decision to close her salon doors to reduce overheads and protect her staff and vulnerable clientele. She instead decided to fill a gap in the market for salon-quality Australian-made and owned hair products! House of April products are inspired by the Australian bush and are sulphate and paraben-free, with organic ingredients.
Meet Liz from Lil’Bit Better 👋 After working in sales and marketing for nearly 20 years, Liz decided to take the plunge to ditch life behind a desk and do something she was genuinely passionate about. She had always dabbled in making her own lotions, potions, cleaning products and herbal remedies and thought, “Why not put my powers to good use while helping the environment?” Boom! Lil’Bit was born. It’s now almost been six years and she hasn’t looked back!

Meet Nicole from Mikros Clothing. Mikros Clothing is an ethical slow fashion brand based in Milsons Point on Cammeraygal country. Being ‘5 foot short’, Nicole was sick of spending money on clothes that didn’t fit her properly, to then only spend more money on having them altered, so she decided to start Mikros Clothing – clothing for those under 165cm, with a strong focus on the essentials.
